From late afternoon, pockets in the city transform into vibrant food fairs as crowds descend onto these sunset markets to get their fill for a scrumptious <em>buka puasa<\/em> feast.<\/p>\n<p>Enter the delicious kaleidoscope of grilled and skewered meat, <em>rendang<\/em>, <em>murtabak<\/em> and long, glittering rows of soft and sweet <em>kuih<\/em> that many Malaysians look forward to sinking their teeth in.<\/p>\n<p>However, with the recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imoney.my\/articles\/how-does-gst-affect-malaysians\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GST implementation<\/a>, coupled with growing year-to-year inflation (which reportedly <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestar.com.my\/Business\/Business-News\/2015\/04\/22\/Malaysia-inflation-rate-in-March-up-nearly-1pct\/?style=biz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">rose 0.9% in March<\/a> from a year ago), you may quickly discover that your Ringgit does not stretch quite as far as it used to, even at these roadside bazaars.<\/p>\n<p>To put this to the test, this writer takes a trip to some of these bazaars to find out just how much RM10 can get you nowadays.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Taman-Tun-Dr-Ismail\"><\/span><strong>Taman Tun Dr Ismail <\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Ramadhan bazaar in Taman Tun has got to be one of the most popular spots in greater Kuala Lumpur and is known for its good food and elaborate options.<\/p>\n<p>With mouth-watering delicacies like roast lamb, fresh <em>lemang<\/em>, <em>rendang<\/em>, <em>murtabak<\/em> and crispy <em>popiah<\/em>, it is no wonder that patrons from all over flock to the area to sample the traditional Ramadhan fare.<\/p>\n<p>But while it is easy to get immersed in the dizzying array of choices, prices of goods are slightly on the higher side. For instance, one chicken leg can cost about RM7, while rice dishes can easily range between RM10 and RM12.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/static.imoney.my\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/ttdi1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17271\" src=\"https:\/\/static.imoney.my\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/ttdi1.jpg\" alt=\"ttdi(1)\" width=\"800\" height=\"351\" srcset=\"\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/ttdi1.jpg 800w, \/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/ttdi1-300x132.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, snacks like kebab and the assortment of <em>roti\u2019s<\/em> ranged from RM4 to RM5. Chicken satay went for something like RM0.70 per stick, while <em>kuihs<\/em> were selling from RM2 upwards.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/static.imoney.my\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/ttdi2-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17272\" src=\"https:\/\/static.imoney.my\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/ttdi2-1.jpg\" alt=\"ttdi(2) (1)\" width=\"800\" height=\"351\" srcset=\"\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/ttdi2-1.jpg 800w, \/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/ttdi2-1-300x132.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><div class=\"block\"><div><strong>Here\u2019s what I managed to snag for RM10:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Beef murtabak \u2013 RM4<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Beef kebab \u2013 RM4<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Kuih koci (3 pieces) \u2013 RM2<\/strong><\/div><\/div><\/li>\n<li>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Bangsar\"><\/span><strong>Bangsar<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The upscale Telawi area is home to Bangsar\u2019s Ramadhan bazaar. Located directly behind Bangsar Village 2, the stretch of stalls may seem rather short, but it is packed with all your favourite Ramadan delights. However, selection is decidedly more limited compared to other bazaars in the city.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/static.imoney.my\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/bangsar2-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17275\" src=\"https:\/\/static.imoney.my\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/bangsar2-1.jpg\" alt=\"bangsar(2) (1)\" width=\"800\" height=\"351\" srcset=\"\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/bangsar2-1.jpg 800w, \/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/bangsar2-1-300x132.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Prices are surprisingly cheap, with packets of chicken rice going from only RM5 to RM5.50 . Meanwhile, one stick of <em>ayam percik<\/em> and a small <em>roti John<\/em> both went for RM3 respectively.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/static.imoney.my\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/bangsar4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17276\" src=\"https:\/\/static.imoney.my\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/bangsar4.jpg\" alt=\"bangsar(4)\" width=\"800\" height=\"351\" srcset=\"\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/bangsar4.jpg 800w, \/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/bangsar4-300x132.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I decided to do away with the usual fried and battered fare, and went for the most \u201cwholesome\u201d option I could find and bagged this meal for under RM10:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/static.imoney.my\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/bangsar1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17277\" src=\"https:\/\/static.imoney.my\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/bangsar1.jpg\" alt=\"bangsar(1)\" width=\"800\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/bangsar1.jpg 800w, \/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/bangsar1-300x131.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><div class=\"block\"><div><strong>For under RM10, I bought:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Nasi ayam \u2013 RM5<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Air mata kucing (1 bottle) \u2013 RM2<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\"><\/div><\/div><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I could have probably gotten a roti John or a stick of ayam percik (which cost RM3 respectively) to round up the total to RM10, but I just didn\u2019t think I had enough room for more food after the <em>nasi ayam.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, I could also have done away with the <em>air mata kucing<\/em> and bought a beef or chicken pita kebab (for RM4 respectively) instead.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Bandar-Tun-Razak\"><\/span><strong>Bandar Tun Razak<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The sleepy suburb comes alive every evening during Ramadhan as neighbouring folks gather to sample the season\u2019s offerings.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/static.imoney.my\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/btr1-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17278\" src=\"https:\/\/static.imoney.my\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/btr1-1.jpg\" alt=\"btr(1) (1)\" width=\"800\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/btr1-1.jpg 800w, \/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/btr1-1-300x131.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sweet treats like <em>kuih talam<\/em> and <em>onde onde<\/em> are perfect to end the day.<\/p>\n<p>Prices of items here are notably cheaper compared to bazaars at Taman Tun and Bangsar. For instance, you can get a packet of chicken rice from RM4.50 to RM5.50, and a packet of fried noodles for RM2.
