You can run, but you can\u2019t hide from the Inland Revenue Board (IRB), as nearly 120,000 Malaysians would find out.<\/p>\n
A total of 116,836 Malaysians have reportedly been barred from leaving the country following their failure to pay their income tax.<\/p>\n
As of May 31, the total of unpaid income tax in Malaysia has amounted to a staggering RM2.55 billion.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, another 9,665 Malaysians have been stopped from leaving the country for not paying their Real Property Gains Tax (RPGT), which amounted to RM150 million in the same period, according IRB.<\/p>\n
It said that travel restrictions can be imposed on errant taxpayers who had ignored numerous reminders issued with regards to payment.<\/p>\n
“The public are advised to check their travel status with the Immigration Department before planning a holiday abroad, especially during the upcoming festive season.<\/p>\n
“Please check your status and clear any arrears to avoid unnecessary loss of time and money,” the IRB said in a statement.<\/p>\n
