You\u2019ll reach your destination by 12.30pm, so ensure you have snacks and sufficient water for the journey.<\/p>\n<div class=\"block block--tips\"><div class=\"block__title\">Money tips<\/div><div><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Feel free to compare exchange rates at a number of booths but don\u2019t waste time and money traipsing across town to save 10 baht.<\/li>\n<li>Banks and booths typically give much better rates than hotels or other businesses.<\/li>\n<li>Only exchange money at a licensed foreign exchange location. As for the mini vans, they are located opposite the bus stop.<\/p>\n<p>These leave every 15 to 20 minutes and will take you to the Hat Yai Bus Terminal, which is about 2km from the train station.<\/p>\n<p>To get to the terminal you will have to fork out about 100 baht or RM12. But if you want to crimp, you can do some legwork, but be prepared \u2013 it\u2019s a 30-minute walk.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Hat-Yai-to-Bangkok\"><\/span><strong>Hat Yai to Bangkok<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>There are two ways to reach the Thai capital. You can take an express bus which is roughly <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thailandlife.info\/hat-yai-bus-station\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">a 14-hour journey at RM90.27 (704 baht)<\/a>. You\u2019ll alight at the Hua Lamphong terminal in Bangkok at 10.10am.<\/p>\n<p>To keep track of train schedules and even book tickets \u2013 which you are advised to do in advance \u2013 visit <a href=\"https:\/\/12go.asia\/en\/travel\/hat-yai\/bang-sue\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">12go.asia<\/a>. One of the perks about the train ride is that you\u2019ll get to see stunning views of paddy fields and the Thai countryside in the morning.<\/p>\n<div class=\"block block--warning\"><div class=\"block__title\">Warning!<\/div><div>Trains are known to be delayed. It is also next to Wat Pho, if you are into temples.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Khao San Road. <\/strong>Shopping and street food galore. Also has a few interesting nightlife spots.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chatuchak Market.<\/strong> A must-visit among tourists. Basically, a place where you shop \u201ctill you drop\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Floating Markets.<\/strong> Damnoen Saduak is the largest and most popular of all floating markets, catering to mainly tourists, but it is still a must-see. Smaller markets such as Tha Kha and Ampawa offer more local flavours.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ancient City Samut Prakan<\/strong>. Then spend the next two days exploring what Siem Reap has to offer, especially its ancient temples which the place is reputed for.<\/p>\n<p>Just note that in Cambodia \u2013 despite having a national currency, the riel \u2013 the US dollar is the preferred choice. ATMs dispense it; everyone accepts it.
