In the past four days, the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry has examined 5,673 retailers in preparation of Ramadhan.<\/p>\n
The ministry carrying out activities in its effort to safeguard consumers from profiteering during the fasting month.<\/p>\n
During the inspection that started on Monday, six cases of profiteering were identified by the enforcement team, said Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe confiscated goods which came up to RM472. We will take action even if it involves just a small amount,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cConsumers can rest assured that our officers are working hard to ensure that traders follow the rules,\u201d he was quoted by the English daily, The Star<\/em>.<\/p>\n There are 10 items, which include chicken eggs (grades A, B and C), mung beans, whole and grated coconut, fine and coarse sugar and wheat flour, in the Festive Season Price Control Scheme, that will end on May 31, 2017.<\/p>\n The items on the controlled price list are only allowed to be sold no higher than the ceiling price set by the government.<\/p>\n These items will be identified with pink-coloured price tags to set them apart from other goods.<\/p>\n
