Ride-sharing firms Uber and Grab are now legal as the Dewan Rakyat passed an amendment to the Land Public Transport Act 2010 and the Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board Act 1987.

Under these amendments, operators such as Uber and Grab will be required to own an intermediation business license issued by a regulatory body. These will be renewable, but operators will not be allowed to transfer or reassign them.

Most importantly, the amendments will make it an offence for any person to assault, hinder or obstruct those involved in e-hailing services.

Those convicted may be liable to a fine of RM1,000, imprisonment not exceeding three months, or both upon conviction.

So now you can take Grab or Uber, or be a Grab or Uber driver, with ease knowing that it is now completely legal!
