The Malaysian passport was re-launched on January 11 with improved security features to prevent forgery or mismanagement of the document.

The enhanced version of the passport, which was formally introduced in November last year, will include a polycarbonate biodata page embedded with a chip and ultraviolet light verification.

However, those opting to apply or renew the document do not have to stress about any additional fees.

The current fee of RM200 remains unchanged as announced by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who confirmed that there would be no additional tax or service charge.

“Even though the quality of the passport has improved, there is no increase in the fee for applying or renewing the Malaysian passport,” he said.

Zahid, who is also home minister, launched the new passport during the monthly assembly at the ministry.
