{"id":32872,"date":"2018-01-19T11:53:12","date_gmt":"2018-01-19T03:53:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.imoney.my\/articles\/?p=32872"},"modified":"2018-01-19T11:53:12","modified_gmt":"2018-01-19T03:53:12","slug":"khazanah-gap-rich-poor-shrinking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.imoney.my\/articles\/khazanah-gap-rich-poor-shrinking","title":{"rendered":"Khazanah: Gap Between Rich &#038; Poor Shrinking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Good governance and sound economic policies are believed to have reduced the disparity of income between the rich and the poor, said a research, citing that the gap has been narrowing since the 1970s.<\/p>\n<p>Allen Ng, from Khazanah Research Institute, said the Gini coefficient \u2013 the index to measure income disparity \u2013 reduced to 0.39 last year form 0.51 in 1970. The smaller the figure, the narrow the disparity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne reason why Malaysia did well or rather okay is because of our good policies and also due to the rapid industrialisation period of mid-80s to late 90s,\u201d Ng said when presenting his papers titled \u201cInequality in Malaysia\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Tertiary education, he said, was also a factor in determining a person\u2019s income.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut then again, the access to tertiary education will become a question of social mobility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGenerally, however, education plays a role and those with tertiary education are said to earn more and thus this have reduce the gap between the middle class groups,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.themalaymailonline.com\/malaysia\/article\/gap-between-rich-and-poor-shrinking-due-to-good-policy-researcher-says#B46rtS3r7dGkcBsa.99\" target=\"_blank\">[Source]<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Really, now?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":29,"featured_media":31925,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[271,293,216],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-32872","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-economy","category-education","category-news-updates"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.5 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Researcher Finds Gap Between Rich &amp; Poor Shrinking<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"Based on a reduced Gini coefficient, Malaysia seems to be on the right track when it comes to reducing income disparities.
