Khazanah Nasional has announced the participating e-wallets that will be able to receive free credit under the e-Tunai Rakyat initiative. Under this programme, Malaysians above the age of 18 and earning less than RM100,000 will be able to claim RM30 in e-wallet credit from the government.<\/p>\n
The three participating e-wallets, Boost, GrabPay, and Touch ‘n Go eWallet were selected on their number of users, merchant partners, technical capability, and investment in the local e-wallet infrastructure.<\/p>\n
At the moment, the e-wallets have not yet announced their preferred mechanism for distributing the credit. However, there is still time for updates as the initiative is meant to run from 15 January to 14 March 2020.<\/p>\n
The e-Tunai Rakyat initiative was announced during Budget 2020 as part of the government’s effort to support a cashless society. Ultimately, the goal is for more Malaysians to adopt e-wallets as their primary method of payment.<\/p>\n
More information about the initiative should be made available closer to its launch date.<\/p>\n
Update: Boost is the first to share details on how to claim your RM30 from the initiative. All you need to do is verify your identity by upgrading to the Premium Wallet (which is free of charge). After that, it is only a matter of waiting for 15 January for the button to appear on the Boost App homepage.<\/p>\n
GrabPay has also revealed that it will be using the same mechanism as Boost for verifying the identity of it’s users by asking them to upgrade to a free premium account. However, neither e-wallet has explained how it will be performing income checks on users to see if they are within the qualifying salary bracket.<\/p>\n
