Malaysia Plan (12MP), including the Penang light rail transit (LRT).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This was revealed during the presentation of the mid-term review of the 12MP at the parliament yesterday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that this move is due to the importance and significance placed on the development of sustainable and resilient transport and logistics infrastructure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;A major shift in strengthening the public transport network will provide better access and connectivity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;More people will enjoy public transport services that are increasingly efficient, reliable, affordable and safe,&#8221; he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/PejabatPerdanaMenteriMalaysia\/videos\/714394097140601\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in Parliament.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Better public transportation system<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 10 new public transport projects are;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The expansion of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and intra-city bus services including in Johor Bahru and the Klang Valley;\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Upgrading of the Senai-Desaru Highway;\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Widening of the North-South Highway (from Yong Peng to Senai Utara) in phases;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Construction of Sarawak-Sabah Link Road II;\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Construction of Sabah Pan Borneo Highway Phase 1B;\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Penang Light Rail Transit (LRT)<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Penang International Airport expansion;\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Redevelopment of Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang;\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Upgrading the East-West Highway from Gerik, Perak to Jeli, Kelantan; and\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">upgrading the road from Tanah Rata to Kea Farm, Cameron Highlands.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also added that the development of a new port on Carey Island is also expected to strengthen Port Klang as a transshipment hub.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;The government will also improve transport infrastructure maintenance works to extend the lifespan of roads, rail assets and air navigation equipment,&#8221; said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Public transportation has always been a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nst.com.my\/news\/nation\/2022\/11\/851147\/give-priority-public-transport\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">major ask among Malaysians<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with experts and the general public calling for a major revamp of Malaysia\u2019s public transport system.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Penang LRT system, which is expected to
