Persatuan Insurans Am Malaysia (PIAM) is ready and waiting to receive the new Malaysian Standard \u2013 Motor Vehicle Aftermarket Smash Repair Requirements (MS) in the first quarter of this year. As its title implies, the MS will set the new standards for the safe and proper repair of accident-involved motor vehicles.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to a <\/span>statement released by PIAM<\/span><\/a>, this initiative to standardise repairs is the result of collaborative efforts between key stakeholders in the motor accident repair ecosystem including Ministry of Transport Malaysia, Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Malaysia (JPJ), PUSPAKOM Sdn Bhd, Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Federation of Automobile Workshop Owners\u2019 Association, Malaysian Automotive Association, PIAM, Malaysia Takaful Association and repairers (including motor franchise repairers).<\/span><\/p>\n

At the same time, it was also noted that the Automotive Engineering Division of JPJ is also working to revise guidelines on vehicle accident repair. This is to ensure that high-quality and safe repair methods are being utilised to service accident-involved motor vehicles in accordance with the Road Transport Act 1987.<\/span><\/p>\n

These guidelines take into the consideration the latest in automotive technology and repair methodology, focusing on the specific area of repair. These include areas such as kink\/bend, chassis and wheel alignment, and body corrosion. The new guidelines are expected to be implemented in the first quarter of 2024, and will affect all private vehicles when they are revealed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Moving forward, PIAM has also expressed its commitment to fully support the ongoing collaboration with stakeholders. They expressed the need to prioritise safety, quality and consumer welfare when it comes to the motor vehicle accident repair industry.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
