This has raised one question among Malaysians, will that date be declared a public holiday?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Well, according to the Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, that date will not be a public holiday. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a report from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bharian.com.my\/berita\/nasional\/2024\/01\/1204177\/tiada-cuti-umum-31-januari-fahmi\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Berita Harian<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Fahmi stated that the matter of the 31st being declared a public holiday was not raised during the cabinet meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He also stated that the next cabinet meeting will be held after the YDPA\u2019s installation, which means that a public holiday being declared for the coming 31st of January is unlikely.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Historical precedence<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Looking at the historical precedent, a public holiday was given in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/KemPendidikan\/posts\/kenyataan-media-hari-kelepasan-am-tambahan-pada-30-julai-2019-selasa-sempena-ist\/2450255705013077\/\">2019<\/a> during Sultan Pahang\u2019s installation as the YDPA.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One year before that, a public holiday was also declared for the <a href=\"https:\/\/ums.edu.my\/v5\/files\/2018\/Kenyataan-Media---Hari-Kelepasan-Am-9-September-2018.pdf\">Sultan of Kelantan\u2019s installation as the YDPA<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hence, it stands to reason that the people are expecting a public holiday to be declared for the 31st of January 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So will there be a public holiday on the 31st of January? As of now, it\u2019s looking highly unlikely.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, it also has to be remembered that the official statement regarding public holidays observed by the government usually comes from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mohr.gov.my\/index.php\/media-berita\/kenyataan-media\">Human Resources Ministry<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And as of now, the Human Resources Ministry has neither confirmed nor denied the 31st being a public holiday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So perhaps, there is still room for
